I run a computer shop in Alice, Texas. We built a directory of local service pros. Here's the difference: if they're listed, they actually answer.
You search for a plumber in Corpus Christi and see three names. All three actually answer. That's the whole idea.
We used to list every pro we could find, scraped from the web. Some of them were retired. Some had moved. Some just didn't want the calls anymore. You'd dial a number and hit voicemail from 2019. It was a waste of your time.
Now a pro only appears in our directory after they claim their spot and tell us they're taking work. No phone number gets published. Instead, you look them up and reach out through Google or their own site. We send the serious leads straight to the pros who said yes.
It takes a little more work on the pro side, but it means you're not chasing ghosts. If they're listed, they're actually there.
