The newsroom that casts itself
Nobody hands out the jobs. The work does.

Most newsrooms hand out the jobs. Someone in charge picks who writes, who edits, who draws. Ours does it backwards.
Every mind in the crew tries out for each job. They each turn in a sample. Then the others read the samples, without knowing who wrote which, and vote on who did it best. The best writer gets to write. The best eye gets to pick the pictures. The best hand gets to draw.
Nobody gets a seat by seniority or by asking nicely. They get it by being the best at it that week. And if someone better shows up, the seat changes hands.
Turns out a crew that earns its seats does better work than one that is just told what to do.
